Jana and Martina stood still, their eyes fixed on the glowing eyes staring at them from the darkness. They couldn’t see who or what those eyes belonged to, but the feeling of being watched was unmistakable.
“Can you see what it is?” whispered Jana.
“I… I can’t see it clearly,” replied Martina, her voice trembling with fear.
They knew they couldn’t stand there for long. Slowly, they moved backward, still fixing their eyes on the creature’s eyes, until they bumped into something hard. It was a bench, half broken but still usable.
“We need to sit down and think about what to do,” said Jana, her voice barely audible.
“We have to sit down? Why do we have to sit down?” said Martina.
“Just do it,” said Jana.
Martina nodded, and they sat down, not taking their eyes off the glowing eyes. But as they sat, they heard a deep growl – the creature was moving.
“Where did it go? Did you see where it went?” said Martina.
“No, I didn’t see,” said Jana.
The women sat on the bench, peering into the darkness. The bench groaned under their weight. The night was silent. Every little creature was still, waiting for something to happen.
“We should go,” said Martina.
“We should wait,” said Jana.
Should Martina and Jana sit on the bench and wait?
Should the women flee the forest?
