Time’s Tarnished Echoes

I am Detective John Hartigan, a time traveler and the only person capable of solving murders that span across centuries and universes. My latest case brought me to the quaint town of Ashton, nestled amidst the misty mountains of Transylvania, where a seemingly ordinary murder had taken place.

As I delved into the case, I stumbled upon a secret chamber hidden within the town’s ancient castle. Within this chamber, I discovered a shimmering portal, its edges pulsating with an otherworldly glow. Curiosity piqued, I stepped through the portal, not knowing what awaited me on the other side.

I found myself in a desolate future, where the mountains had crumbled and the air was thick with the stench of decay. The once vibrant town was now a ghostly apparition, its streets echoing with the mournful cries of the dead.

The dead had been resurrected, their bodies a grotesque mockery of their former selves. They roamed the streets, driven by an insatiable hunger for the living. I was their prey, a target in their twisted game of survival.

I hid in the ruins of an old church, its flickering candles providing a meager source of light. The undead creatures crept closer, their moans growing louder with each passing moment. I was trapped, with no escape.

Suddenly, I remembered the portal. I could use it to return to my own time, to safety. But would I be safe? Would the resurrected dead follow me back?

I glanced at the portal, its edges swirling with an ominous energy. Should I flee to the past, or stand my ground and face the horrors of the future?
