[SCENE START]
INT. WOODS – NIGHT
A narrow path leads through a dense forest. Moonlight filters through the trees, casting eerie shadows.
A young woman, ELIS, walks cautiously along the path. She is dressed in a long, dark coat, and her face is obscured by a hood.
A rustling sound comes from behind a nearby tree. Elisa freezes, her heart pounding in her chest.
A large, orange pumpkin emerges from the shadows. It has a strange, leering face, and its eyes glow with an eerie light.
ELISA
What are you?
The pumpkin does not answer. It simply stares at Elisa, its eyes burning with an intensity that makes her shiver.
ELISA
I am afraid of you.
The pumpkin smiles, revealing a row of sharp, jagged teeth.
ELISA
Please, do not hurt me!
The pumpkin suddenly lunges forward, its claws outstretched.
ELISA
(screaming)
Elisa ducks out of the way, the pumpkin’s claws scraping against her coat.
She scrambles to her feet and runs away, the pumpkin in hot pursuit.
The pumpkin chases Elisa through the forest, its claws tearing at her legs. Elisa is exhausted and terrified, but she does not dare stop.
Finally, she reaches a clearing. She skids to a stop, panting heavily.
The pumpkin is right behind her, its eyes glowing with an almost demonic light.
ELISA
Please, I don’t want to die!
The pumpkin stops, its claws hovering inches from Elisa’s neck.
The pumpkin speaks, its voice a deep, rasping growl.
PUMPKIN
We will not harm you, human.
Elisa stares at the pumpkin in disbelief.
ELISA
But you tried to kill me!
PUMPKIN
We must protect our secrets.
Elisa is confused.
ELISA
What secrets?
The pumpkin tilts its head to one side, its eyes still glowing brightly.
PUMPKIN
The secrets of our kind.
Elisa is intrigued.
ELISA
What kind are you?
The pumpkin hesitates for a moment, then speaks.
PUMPKIN
We are the guardians of humanity.
Elisa is stunned.
ELISA
Guardians?
PUMPKIN
Yes. We protect humans from the monsters that dwell in the shadows.
Elisa is amazed.
ELISA
I had no idea.
PUMPKIN
Most humans do not. It is our secret.
Elisa thinks for a moment.
ELISA
Why do you protect us?
The pumpkin smiles, its eyes glowing with a warm light.
PUMPKIN
Because you are our children.
Elisa is speechless.
The pumpkin turns and walks away, disappearing into the darkness.
Elisa stands there for a long time, her mind racing.
She suddenly feels a strange calmness wash over her.
She realizes that the pumpkins are not monsters, but protectors.
She feels a deep sense of gratitude for their sacrifice.
