The Ancient Hunger

[SCENE START]

INT. FOREST. DAY

A scientist, ANNA, is traversing the dense, eerie forest, her flashlight cutting through the thick canopy. She stops abruptly, her eyes wide with terror. The trees around her are moving, their gnarled branches reaching out like grasping claws.

ANNA: (Gasping) What’s happening?

The trees inch closer, their leaves rustling ominously. Anna’s heart pounds in her chest as she tries to back away.

ANNA: (Shaking) Stay away from me!

A low growl echoes through the forest, sending a shiver down Anna’s spine. The trees continue their slow advance, their presence growing more menacing with each passing moment.

ANCIENT VOICE: Who dares disturb our slumber?:

Anna’s blood runs cold as she recognizes the voice. It’s the forest itself, speaking to her through the ancient trees.

ANNA: (Whispering) Who are you?

ANCIENT VOICE: We are the forest, the keeper of secrets, the devourer of flesh.:

Anna’s mind reels as she grasps the horrifying truth. The trees are not just moving, they are alive, and they hunger for human flesh.

ANCIENT VOICE: You have come here to study us, to uncover our mysteries. But you have disturbed our peace, and now you will pay the price.:

Anna’s eyes dart around, searching for an escape route. But the trees have her surrounded, their branches forming a wall that blocks her path.

ANCIENT VOICE: We will feast on your flesh, and your bones will nourish the earth.:

Anna’s heart sinks as she realizes she is trapped. The ancient forest has claimed her as its prey.

ANCIENT VOICE: Are you ready to die, human?:

ANNA: (Nodding slowly) Yes.

ANCIENT VOICE: Then come to us, and let our hunger be sated.:

Anna takes a deep breath and closes her eyes. She accepts her fate, knowing that she will soon join the countless others who have fallen prey to the forest’s ancient hunger.

[SCENE END]

Ending Alternative:

I open my eyes and reach into my bag, pulling out the axe and dynamite. I swing the axe, chopping at the branches that block my path. The trees scream in pain, their leaves rustling like angry whispers.

I keep chopping, clearing a path through the forest. The ancient voice roars in anger, but I don’t stop. I have to escape.

I run through the forest, the trees snapping at my heels. I can hear the ancient voice growing closer, its hunger echoing through the trees.

I reach the edge of the forest and burst out into the open. I collapse to the ground, gasping for breath. I’m free.

I look back at the forest, its dark depths filled with malevolent energy. I shudder at the thought of what would have happened to me if I had not fought back.

I turn and walk away, leaving the ancient forest behind. I know that I will never forget my encounter with the devourer of flesh, and I will never again venture into its depths.
