Speaker 1: Elijah
My name is Elijah, and I am the eldest son of the Maplewood family. We have been producing pure, organic maple syrup for generations, and our business is the lifeblood of our community.
I remember the first time I tapped a maple tree. I was just a kid, and I was so excited to see the sap dripping into my bucket. I couldn’t wait to taste the sweet syrup that we made from it.
The maple syrup business is hard work, but it’s also very rewarding. We get to work in the fresh air, and we make a product that people love.
But our business is under threat. A new development is planned for our land, and it will destroy the natural environment that we depend on.
The developers say that they will only build on a small part of our land, but I know that that’s just the beginning. Once they start, they won’t be able to stop.
I’m fighting to save our land and our business, but I’m not sure if I can win.
Speaker 2: Rebecca
My name is Rebecca, and I am Elijah’s wife. I’m also a maple syrup producer, and I’m just as passionate about our business as Elijah is.
I’ve seen how hard Elijah works, and I know how much he loves our land. I can’t imagine what he would do if we lost it.
I’m doing everything I can to support Elijah, but I’m also feeling the pressure. I’m worried about our children’s future.
I don’t know what we’re going to do, but we’re not giving up. We’re going to fight for our land and our business, no matter what.
Speaker 3: Nathan
My name is Nathan, and I am Elijah and Rebecca’s son. I’m only 10 years old, but I understand the importance of our land.
I’ve grown up watching my parents work hard to produce maple syrup. I’ve seen how much they love our land and our business.
I know that we’re facing a difficult challenge, but I’m not going to give up. I’m going to help my parents fight for what’s right.
I’m not sure if we can win, but I’m not going to let fear stop me from trying.
The play ends with a cliffhanger. The developers are closing in on the Maplewood family’s land, and the future of their business is uncertain.
The final speaker asks:
