The mountain was a behemoth, a jagged mass of rock that loomed over the landscape, its peak perpetually shrouded in mist. I had been climbing it for days, my legs aching, my lungs burning, my spirit wavering. But I was determined to reach the summit, to stand atop the world and gaze upon the horizon.
As I neared the top, I noticed a small crevice in the rock face. It was barely visible, hidden behind a curtain of moss. I paused, my heart pounding, my curiosity piqued. I had to see what was inside.
I squeezed through the crevice, my body scraping against the rough stone. The passage led into a dark cave, the air thick with the smell of damp earth and decay. I fumbled for my flashlight, the beam cutting through the darkness, revealing a sight that made my blood run cold.
The cave was filled with ancient artifacts, remnants of a civilization long forgotten. There were statues of stone and metal, carvings in the rock, and even a collection of bones, scattered around the floor. I could tell that they were human bones, but they were not like any bones I had ever seen before. They were larger, their joints were twisted, and their skin was pale and leathery.
I stepped closer, my heart pounding in my chest. I didn’t want to believe what I was seeing, but the evidence was clear. These were the remains of vampires, a long-extinct race of creatures that feasted on the blood of the living.
I turned to leave, but as I did, I felt a sudden chill. The air seemed to thicken, and the temperature dropped. I looked back at the cave, and I saw something that made my blood run cold.
The statues were moving. Their eyes glowed red, and their mouths were open, revealing fangs that dripped with blood. The carvings in the rock were writhing, their forms shifting and changing. And the bones were rising to their feet, their bodies contorting into grotesque shapes.
I turned to run, but it was too late. The vampires were upon me. They grabbed me, their cold hands digging into my flesh. They dragged me deeper into the cave, their laughter echoing through the darkness.
I knew that I was going to die. I was going to become a vampire, doomed to forever thirst for the blood of the living. But I didn’t care. I was already dead inside.
As the vampires closed in, I closed my eyes and welcomed the darkness.
