The aliens are retreating back to their ship. I can see them now, their giant, metallic forms slowly rising into the sky. I raise my gun and take aim, firing a shot that impacts their hull with a satisfying clang.
I turn around and look at the town. It’s in shambles, but there are no bodies. Just smoking ruins and shattered glass. I feel a surge of relief. We did it. We saved our town.
But then I see something that makes my blood run cold. There, on the edge of town, is one of the aliens. It’s not retreating with the others. It’s staring at me, its eyes glowing red.
I raise my gun again, but it’s too late. The alien leaps forward, its claws outstretched. I close my eyes and wait for the impact.
But the impact never comes. I open my eyes and see the alien lying on the ground, its head twisted at an unnatural angle. I look around, but I don’t see anyone else.
I’m alone.
Did I kill the alien?
