Scene 1: Apartment
A man, John, sits on the couch, staring at his girlfriend, Sarah, who is curled up in an armchair, reading a book.
John:
Sarah, can you take off your shirt?
Sarah looks up from her book, surprised.
Sarah:
What? Why?
John:
I just want to see you.
Sarah:
Well, you can see me just fine with my shirt on.
John:
But not as well.
Sarah:
I don’t know. I’m not really in the mood.
John:
Please?
Sarah sighs and puts down her book. She slowly stands up and unbuttons her shirt.
Sarah:
There. Happy?
John:
Yes. Thank you.
John stares at Sarah’s bare chest. She is beautiful.
John:
You’re so beautiful.
Sarah:
Thank you.
John reaches out and touches Sarah’s breast. She flinches.
Sarah:
John, don’t.
John:
I’m sorry.
John pulls his hand away.
Sarah:
Is that all you wanted?
John:
Yes.
Sarah puts her shirt back on.
Sarah:
I’m going to bed.
Sarah walks into the bedroom and closes the door.
John sits on the couch, feeling dejected.
Scene 2: Research Station
A group of scientists is gathered around a computer screen, looking at a map of the Earth.
Scientist 1:
It’s incredible.
Scientist 2:
I know. I can’t believe it.
Scientist 1:
They’re almost beautiful.
The scientists are looking at a map of the Earth that has been superimposed with a network of lines. The lines connect the peaks of the mountains in the remote mountain range.
Scientist 3:
So, you’re saying that the mountains are moving?
Scientist 1:
Yes. They’re slowly shifting their positions across the landscape.
Scientist 2:
But how is that possible? Mountains are solid. They don’t move.
Scientist 1:
I don’t know. But it’s real.
The scientists are all shaken by this discovery. They know that this could have a devastating impact on the planet.
Scientist 3:
What are we going to do?
Scientist 1:
I don’t know. But we need to find out more about these mountains. We need to understand why they’re moving and what the consequences could be.
The scientists continue to study the data, but they are only able to confirm the shocking truth: the mountains are moving, and they are disrupting the balance of the planet.
Scene 3:
John stands up and walks over to the bedroom door.
John: Can I come in now?
Sarah (in a sleepy voice): Why?
John: I’m cold.
Sarah: How can you be cold? It is the middle of summer.
John: No, it’s only May. Summer is July. Plus, I took my pants off.
Sarah: Nice. You can come in.
Scene 4:
Scientist 1: It’s happening faster.
Scientist 2: I think this is more serious than mountains moving.
Scientist 1: Yes, it is more serious. The world appears to be collapsing.
Scene 5
Sarah: That’s nice. Don’t move faster. Not yet. Yes.
Scene 6
Scientist 1: 45 seconds. It’s all going to collapse in 45 seconds. 40… 35… 30…
Sarah: Now, faster. Faster.
25… 20… 15…
Sarah: Yes
Scientist 2: Who do we call?
Scientist 1: Ten seconds, 9, 8, 7..
Sarah’s entire body tightens and then releases.
Scientist 1: Six, 5, 4, 3…
Sarah smiles: Life is so nice.
Scientist 1: Two, 1, 0.
